Ultraman: Rising Secures Second Spot on Netflix’s Global Ranking

The newly released animated feature film Ultraman: Rising has soared to the top of Netflix’s charts, achieving a remarkable milestone by ranking second on the streaming platform’s global top 10 charts for the week of June 17-23. The film has garnered an impressive 7.9 million views within that particular week.

Ultraman: Rising has not only secured its place on Netflix’s global list, but it has also managed to rank in the top 10 films in an impressive 69 countries. Moreover, the film has witnessed a staggering 16 million hours of viewing, solidifying its status as a hit among viewers worldwide.

The story follows the journey of Baseball superstar Ken Sato, who returns to his home country of Japan and embarks on a new adventure as a superhero. However, what initially appears to be a fairly straightforward mission quickly escalates as Ken finds himself entangled in a web of challenges. Tasked with the responsibility of raising the offspring of his greatest foe, a newborn Kaiju, Ken faces the daunting challenge of balancing the roles of teammate and new father. He must confront his ego, his estranged father, and the Kaiju Defense Force, all while striving to discover what it means to be a true Ultraman.

The film comes from Tsuburaya Productions, who partnered with Netflix and Industrial Light & Magic to bring this new Ultraman story to life. The Japanese dub cast includes Yuki Yamada as Ken Sato, Fumiyo Kohinata (Professor Sato), Akari Hayami (Ami Wakita), Fumihiko Tachiki (Dr. Onda), Ayumi Tsunematsu (Mina), Hiroko Sakurai (Ami Wakita’s mother), and Takaya Aoyagi as an Aoshina member.

Shannon Tindle, the film’s director, says this is the first of a trilogy of films he plans. In an interview, he said, “I have ideas for two more films. I know every specifically what I want to do for those two films.” He also mentioned, “And all I can say is, fans of the emotion and the heart of Ultraman, people who don’t know anything about Ultraman at all, I think are going to be surprised if I get to make those movies, and hardcore fans, they’re going to have fun too. Because there’s one thing that we didn’t explore in this film […] so I’ll let you infer what you want with that.”

It seems Ultraman fans can get to see more of Ultraman Rising, with Shannon Tindle providing fans with two more films in the future. In the meantime, check out the movie on Netflix.
