Developer Says Braid Anniversary Edition Sold Like Dog Crap

In May 2024, developer Jonathan Blow launched Braid Anniversary Edition, a remastered version of the original 2008 indie game for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS and PC. However, he has come out and said that it sold like “dogshit”.

As revealed by a user on ResetEra, a YouTube channel called “Blow Fan” published a compilation of commentary from Blow on Braid Anniversary Edition’s sales performance, made during a number of livestreams in the months since the game first launched.

In a stream on 17 June 2024, Blow said Braid Anniversary Edition had sold:

“… horribly. It has sold like dogs**t compared to what we need to make for the company to survive. So the future is uncertain, let’s put it that way.”

In another stream on 22 July 2024, Blow added that releasing Braid Anniversary Edition on so many platforms:

“… made a difference, but the problem is most of those platforms are f***ing dead now. Steam is easily still our biggest platform. There would have been something to be said for just not porting to half those platforms.”

In a recent stream on 27 July 2024, Blow addressed the Braid Anniversary Edition sales, and he said:

“None, because we can’t afford to pay anyone because the sales are bad. The whole game industry is having a hard time.”
