Prime Video’s God Of War Series Showrunner Leaves, Project Starts From Scratch

Back in 2022, Sony and Prime Video announced that they were working on a live-action God Of War TV series. Rafe Judkins was the showrunner and executive producer of the series, with “Iron Man” and “Children of Men” writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby also writing and executive producing. Santa Monica Studio’s studio creative director Cory Barlog will also serve as executive producer, in addition to Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

However, they are now starting from scratch on the project (via Deadline).

Rafe Judkins, along with EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have left the project after completing multiple scripts for the first season. The studios are apparently looking to move in a different creative direction. Sony and Amazon’s plan is to hire a whole new writers room for the series that remains an important asset for Prime.

The God of War franchise from Sony’s Santa Monica Studio spans a total of seven games across four PlayStation consoles. The action game series launched in 2005 on the PS2, with the first God of War. The latest game was 2022’s God Of War Ragnarok, which is now available on PS4, PS5 and PC.
