Max Malaysia Officially Launches, Here Are The Best Movies & TV Series To Watch
By Alleef Ashaari|November 19, 2024|0 Comment
As of 19 November 2024, Max is now available in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, a brand new streaming experience for Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. It officially replaces HBO GO.
Bringing together the highest quality entertainment from brands like HBO, Harry Potter, the DC Universe, Discovery, AFN, Cartoon Network and HGTV, fans will be able to enjoy blockbuster movies, groundbreaking series, iconic hits, engaging real-life content and family favourites all in one place.
Max will offer a choice of different plans and will be available for subscription at www.max.com, and via app stores, including the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
For existing subscribers of HBO GO, your account will automatically turn into the MAX standard plan by default.
Here are the best movies and TV shows to watch on Max Malaysia:
Of course, one of the flagship HBO series will always be the Game Of Thrones franchise. If you somehow haven’t watched Game Of Thrones, now is definitely the best time to watch Game Of Thrones with the launch of Max. Despite being a prequel series, we recommend only watching House Of The Dragon after watching Game Of Thrones for the best experience, but it’s ultimately up to you. Both series offer the best in fantasy drama TV.
The HBO adaptation of The Last Of Us broke the video game curse and became an exemplar of how to do a live-action video game TV series adaptation. It’s faithful to the original 2013 game, while also adding some of its own new characters and lore expansion that further enriches the universe. With Season 2 coming in 2025, now’s the best time to watch this great series.
Back in 2023, we were lucky enough to be the only Malaysian media to participate in interviews with The Last Of Us showrunners and cast, including Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, Merle Dandridge and Gabriel Luna. This anthology series offers an eclectic and electrifying mix of drama and comedy. If you can’t go on holiday but want holiday or vacation vibes, this is the series for you. Enjoy your stay at the White Lotus.
Who knew a crime drama about a Batman villain could be so good? If you’re a comic book fan or you like crime dramas such as The Godfather or The Sopranos, this series is for you. Just don’t expect Batman to show up.
There’s only one episode of this series so far, but it’s a prequel to the excellent Dune movies. Dune Prophecy scratches that big-budget sci-fi itch and offer high production value, with some Game Of Thrones-level storytelling set in the fascinating Dune universe.
Good sitcoms or comedy series are hard to come by these days, but The Sex Lives Of College Girls is a good recent and ongoing one to watch. Don’t let the title fool you, this isn’t just about sex, but more about the challenges that young university students face in their everyday lives and of course, that includes many, many relationships.
Need we say more? This masterpiece of a cinematic trilogy deserves to be rewatched from time to time and now that they’re all conveniently on Max, it’s the best way to watch them. Tolkien fans, rejoice!
If you’re more of a Harry Potter fan than a Tolkien fan, all of the Wizarding World movies are also available on Max.
There’s a bunch of DC Comics content on Max, but Watchmen Chapter One is one of the most recent, offering a more faithful adaptation of the comics compared to the Zack Snyder version. Check out our full review here.
