Guess Who Dominated The Streaming Wars In 2024
By Alleef Ashaari|January 27, 2025|0 Comment
There are so many streaming services these days vying for our attention and money. That includes thousands of hours of TV shows and movies across all these streaming services, so surely some of them will come out on top while others will not.
Most of the time, these streaming services won’t release data to the public, so it’s difficult to gauge which is getting more success and which is not.
According to statistics provided by Luminate, here are some of the most interesting facts and data revealed about streaming services and shows in 2024:
These were the top ten shows on streaming in 2024:
Seven out of the ten shows are on Netflix, proving that Netflix is still the number one streamer in the world right now, despite all the competition. It’s expected, considering that Netflix still has the highest number of subscribers worldwide and is the only streaming service most widely available outside the US.
For instance, certain streaming services like Paramount+ and Peacock aren’t even officially available outside the US yet, such as in Malaysia.
It’s hard to determine which streamer is more successful over the other considering that they don’t release clear data like box office revenue, but statistics can show which streaming service has the most hours of content viewing time.
Netflix is still far ahead of the curve when it comes to sheer hours of content viewing.
According to the statistics, there are several selected genres that are streamed the most. These are drama, followed by crime and action adventure. It’s no surprise, considering that those are usually the most popular shows amongst general viewers.
Streaming services are less and less likely to take more risks as the number of TV shows and series being cancelled was the highest they’ve ever been in 2024.
A lot of shows and series these days get cancelled after only one season, which means that it’s harder for viewers to spend time watching new series if they’re just going to end up being cancelled and not renewed for new seasons. More often than not, shows will get cancelled unless they’re really popular.
Again, Netflix dominates in this category as well, with a whopping 97 TV series and shows slated to premiere in 2025 alone. Prime Video is in second place with 68 and Apple TV+ has 23. In comparison, the rest of the big streaming services have less than 20 slated to come out in 2025, which just goes to show how massive the content production for Netflix is compared to the others.
