Our Most Anticipated Movies & Films Of 2025

Happy New Year 2025!
It’s the beginning of a new year as we head into a brand new year. We’re halfway into the 2020s and this upcoming year might be one of the biggest years yet for pop culture. This is especially so after the early 2020s which were plagued by problems and issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, the months-long SAG-AFTRA strike that shook the entertainment industry and massive layoffs in the games industry.
For our list of most anticipated video games, head on over here.
Let’s look into some of our most anticipated movies in 2025:
It’s no exaggeration to say that James Gunn’s Superman is currently the most highly-anticipated movie of 2025, considering the viewership and positive reactions to the movie’s first teaser trailer. There’s a lot riding on this one, as it is the first live-action movie to kick off the new DC Universe (DCU) under the new DC Studios led by Gunn. For Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow! Check out our breakdown of the Superman trailer by heading over here.
From the looks of the trailers so far, this movie doesn’t seem to be eliciting positive responses but again, it might surprise us all when it eventually releases. With a stacked cast including Jack Black and Jason Momoa, let’s hope this doesn’t turn out like the embarrassment that was 2024’s Borderlands movie. Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess, who previously worked with Black on the 2006 comedy Nacho Libre, is directing the Minecraft movie.
The 2021 Mortal Kombat movie was a decent movie, especially since it was properly R-rated and delivered some gory live-action fatalities despite a boring protagonist who isn’t from the games. The second movie will be adding many more characters from the fighting game franchise, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana. Let’s hope we get the actual tournament this time around.

Marvel’s First Family will finally return home and make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which in itself is a cause for celebration for comic book fans. However, the movie just recently finished filming and there are still no trailers for this one, so there is just a slight chance of it getting delayed at this point.
Thunderbolts will bring back many familiar faces (like Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova) and new faces (like Lewis Pullman as Robert ‘Bob’ Reynolds AKA The Sentry). The movie is also partially filmed in Malaysia, so it will be nice to see our country making its debut in the MCU.
This will be the first MCU movie of 2025 and it has a lot to prove, especially for Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who makes his debut as the new Captain America in this movie following the events of 2021’s The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Plus, Harrison Ford also makes his debut in the MCU as the Red Hulk and this movie feels like it will change the MCU.
Millennials from the early 2000s who grew up with Disney movies during that era will look forward to this movie. The nostalgia is strong with this one, and Lilo & Stitch is one of the few Disney movies that fans would really want to watch in live-action (not cough Snow White cough).
Disney isn’t the only one making live-action remakes of their animated fare, as DreamWorks joins the fray with How To Train Your Dragon. The teaser trailer looked better than expected and has increased the hype of many fans who were previously sceptical of this project.
John Wick may have ‘retired’ after his last movie but the universe continues as Ana De Armas makes her debut as the Ballerina. This is also notable for being one of the late Lance Reddick’s final roles before his tragic passing.
It took a while but the second and final part of Mission Impossible’s Reckoning two-parter is finally arriving this year. Will this be Tom Cruise’s final adventure as Ethan Hunt? We’ll have to wait and see.
