“The PlayStation Vita Was Too Late” According To Shuhei Yoshida
By Kakuchopurei|April 14, 2025|0 Comment
With the PlayStation Vita’s cutting-edge technology for its time back in 2011, one would think PlayStation at the time was ahead of Nintendo and smartphones. Well, it wasn’t, according to former PlayStation producer and indie games champion Shuhei Yoshida.
We recently had a chat with the man many called ‘the face of PlayStation’ and he claimed that it was a challenge running the PS Vita and dealing with Nintendo’s portable platform (the DS and 3DS) because it was PlayStation’s first time handling two different platforms. “It was too much and too difficult in terms of resources.” he claimed.
On the upside, Shuhei’s proudest game he produced for the device was Gravity Rush, an action title from Silent Hill/Siren director Keiichi Toyama where a girl named Katt can flip gravity at will in a world and town heavily influenced by France and European culture. In Shuhei’s own words, “It was a game that defined the PlayStation Vita.”. We concur.
You can check out the full interview below, where Shuhei talks about indie gaming and its future in Southeast Asia, more PlayStation stuff, and the game he wants to see a remake of if given unlimited funds. Also, he shares what he’s been up to lately.
