This Is Why There Is No Nintendo Switch 2 Malaysia News (Yet)

A while ago, we reported on Nintendo Switch 2’s availability in the SEA markets such as Singapore, Thailand, and The Philippines on 26 June onward. However, among the Southeast Asian countries listed on Nintendo’s SEA website, there’s one glaring absence.

It has been awfully quiet for the Malaysian market when it comes to news regarding Nintendo Switch 2 sales and availability. Today, we finally know why.

According to various sources and those in-the-know, the official distributors for the upcoming handheld are currently awaiting approval from the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM). SIRIM is the country’s gatekeeper for standards and quality for electronics and tech, so they wield the final say in whether video game consoles are allowed to be sold locally via local pricing.

So until they are satisfied that the Nintendo Switch 2 meets all the guidelines set, we won’t be getting any news regarding Nintendo Switch 2 being on sale in the Malaysia, or whether its games will cost up to US$80. Here’s to hoping for speedy approval and news that is kinder to our wallets.
