Hideo Kojima Opens Up Movie And Music Studio

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, the folks responsible for the phenomenon(?) that is Death Stranding, has established a new business division focused on music, TV, and film.

According to a GamesIndustry.biz report, the studio will be in Los Angeles and is intended to take its current and future games into the movie and music field. It’s essentially a long time coming, as Kojima fans hope to see the game auteur create films since he’s basically talking about them non-stop on Twitter and spaces before Twitter even existed. Heck, his Metal Gear games were inspired by a mix of John Carpenter and James Cameron sci-fi films, right down to the archetypes.

The new studio will be led by PlayStation veteran Riley Russell, stating that the new division will be working with creative and talented professionals in the film and music industry.

“The team has as its charter, the goal of expanding the reach and awareness of the properties now under development at Kojima Productions, and to make them even more a part of our popular culture.”

Kojima Productions’ Yoshiko Fukuda also said that the new division will open up new avenues for the company.

“Finding new ways to entertain, engage and offer value to our fans is essential in a fast-moving, ever-changing storytelling world. Our new division will take the studio into even more areas that present our creative narratives beyond videogames and to open up ways for our fans to communicate and immerse themselves in these spaces.”

Living the dream, I guess. At least Kojima and company have folks like Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, and their respective pals/executives/funders so the studio won’t be out of talent and quality.
