Elden Ring Is Getting Negative Reviews On Steam [Update]

Update: From Software has heard your pleas. The company is fixing it as we speak. We’ve posted the patch notes below:

  • Fixed an issue where the graphics card was not being used, resulting in slow performance.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to quit under certain conditions during a battle with the Fire Giant.
  • Fixed other bugs.

Elden Ring is a damn good albeit challenging action RPG, but its current PC technical prowess? It isn’t so hot.

At least according to a huge number of Steam reviews; about 40% of them are negative. The problem? Stuttering frame rates and overall performance despite having the best graphics card and PC systems to run the game on Ultra settings.

Here are a number of quotes:

“Struggling to maintain 60fps/1080p on a [GeForce RX] 3080, massive stuttering and drops to the mid-20s, crashed four times within two hours of game time, 60fps cap, and no ultrawide support.”

“Never would I have expected to give Elden Ring a downvote based on the game’s performance on PC,” wrote another. “I’m hardly an FPS snob and I can live with the lack of ultra-widescreen support (in 2022), because the game itself is brilliant and it’s bound to deliver on everything people expected and more. But that just makes this whole dilemma so, so much worse regarding the poor performance on PC.”

“Stuttering problems despite having a rig above the recommended settings,” another review reads. “No ultrawide support, 60fps lock. It’s 2022 and FromSoftware is repeating the same mistakes for the fifth time.”

“Elden Ring? More like Stutter-Ring.”
