Takeshi’s Castle Is Getting A Reboot At Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has announced that they are increasing their slate of Japanese content, including a reboot of beloved Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle. Many people, including in Malaysia, grew up watching Takeshi’s Castle, which originally ran from 1986 to 1990, with Japanese comedian Takeshi Kitano as the host.

The working title for the Takeshi’s Castle reboot will be Takeshi’s Castle Project and it’s currently unclear if it will feature the return of Takeshi Kitano as the host. More details will probably be revealed leading to its eventual release sometime in 2023.

Other Japanese content recently greenlit at Amazon Prime Video include romantic horror adventure-comedy series My Undead Yokai Girlfriend created by NCIS Hawaii and Grace alums Yalun Tu and Zach Hines; a movie adaptation of Ryota Kosawa’s bestseller Angel Flight; and second seasons of The Masked Singer and The Bachelorette Japan, which will debut this summer. Also, the first season of Bake Off Japan has been set with judges Toshihiko Yoroizuka and Yoshimi Ishikawa, and hosts Maki Sakai and Asuka Kudo, which will premiere on 22 April 2022.

Last but not least, Amazon Prime Video will livestream the WBA, IBF, and WBC World Bantamweight title fight between WBA World Bantamweight Super Champion and IBF Bantamweight World Champion Naoya Inoue, and WBC World Bantamweight Champion Nonito Donaire, on 7 June 2022 from the Saitama Super Arena.
