Malaysia’s Keluang Man Is Getting His Own Live-Action Film

Malaysia’s very own local superhero, Keluang Man, is getting a live-action movie adaptation of his own. Astro Shaw is working together with Iconic Animation Studio to bring the character to life on the big screen for the first time (via Awani).

For those who aren’t familiar with the role, Keluang Man was originally introduced in an animated series, which ran for seven seasons and 142 episodes from 1998 to 2005. His name is based on a local fruit bat (Keluang) and he’s actually sort of a parody of DC Comics’ Batman. The character is an actual mental health patient, but unlike Moon Knight, this was played more for comedic purposes.

Speaking with Awani, Astro Shaw head and vice president of Malay Nusantara business Raja Jastina Raja Arshad said:

“We believe the Keluang Man brand is popular in the local animation and arts industries, and that it has its own fans who grew up with this animated series. We hope that that this news will bring excitement to fans and prove that the local animation industry can be elevated to even greater heights.”

The Keluang Man movie is expected to begin production soon, but more details and information will probably be announced at a later date.
