2023 Will Be Indie Game Dead Cells “Biggest Year” Since Launch
Developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire launched its 2D roguelike Metroidvania title Dead Cells since 2018, but they have still been busy making and adding content for the game since. Players have been enjoying the game’s free updates and paid DLC, and it looks like it won’t be stopping anytime soon.
The developers said on a recent blog post that the game’s latest DLC The Queen and The Sea isn’t their last content update for Dead Cells.
“Heading into 2023 we won’t be slowing down, in fact we’ll be stepping things up! It’s going to be by far our biggest year since the 1.0 launch and we’re thrilled to show you what we’ve been cooking up behind the scenes.
What we’re getting at here is that we’re very much in the mid-life of Dead Cells. We’re not sneaking out at night to get drunk on street corners anymore, but we’ve still got plenty of life in us before our knees start to give in.”
And to prove that, they published a roadmap:
To recap, the game will finally get the requested Panchaku (pan + nunchucks) in Summer 2022, a Boss Rush mode in Fall 2022, and more new stuff in Winter 2022 and 2023. Exciting times for people still playing Dead Cells; I might want to head back to the game in the near future! In the meantime, check out the Panchaku in action:
There are also some rebalancing plans and ideas in progress. Here’s what the team suggests:
