Mortal Kombat 12 Official Reveal Coming Soon According To New Teaser [Update]

Update [11 May 2023]: Turns out that Mortal Kombat 12 will officially be called Mortal Kombat 1 (via billbil-kun); this may suggest that the new entry is a(nother) reboot of the MK timeline. Guest characters may include Peacemaker (from The Suicide Squad) and Homelander (from The Boys).

The game will be out for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. The standard version is going for US$69.99, while the premium version is US$109.99. The Kollector’s edition will cost US$249.99; the contents for the premium and Kollector’s edition are unknown at this point in time.

Original story

Several months ago, Warner Bros. accidentally revealed that Mortal Kombat 12 would be launching sometime in 2023. Today on 11 May 2023, the official Mortal Kombat accounts are finally teasing an official reveal is coming soon for a new entry.

On social media, the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon shared a video of a ticking clock counting up to the number 12, before pausing and skipping to number 1.

What does this mean? Will we be skipping Mortal Kombat 12 and getting a Mortal Kombat reboot or remake instead? Maybe a sort of “requel” or legacy sequel like 2022’s Scream? It’s possible, considering time travel exists in the Mortal Kombat franchise via characters like Kronika.

It looks like we won’t have to wait long for an official reveal, especially with the dawn of summer. The summer season usually coincides with the E3 season (despite there being no official E3 event this year), so we can look forward to major game reveals in the next month or so.

Stay tuned on Kakuchopurei for the latest news and updates. The last entry in the franchise, Mortal Kombat 11, was originally released in 2019 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
