Shopify Rebellion and Team Liquid had different journeys leading up to the competition. Shopify Rebellion dominated the upper bracket, defeating Chao Hui EDward Gaming and BBL Queens with 2-0 sweeps in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
