VCT Game Changers 2023 Grand Finals Breaks Records As Shopify Rebellion Hail Victorious

VCT Game Changers achieved a groundbreaking viewership milestone during the trophy ceremony where Shopify Rebellion emerged victorious against Team Liquid Brazil.

The conclusion of the 2023 VCT Game Changers marked the realization of North America’s anticipated dominance in the GC Championships. In 2022, Cloud9 White, a significant part of Shopify Rebellion‘s lineup, was initially considered the top team but ended up finishing third. However, assembling a roster with prominent NA Game Changers stars made Shopify’s victory inevitable.

The moment has finally arrived, with Shopify securing the trophy on home soil against Team Liquid Brazil, creating a historic moment that set a new viewership record for Game Changers. According to Esports Charts, the Grand Finals reached a peak viewership of 279,248, making it the most-watched VCT Game Changers match ever.

Remarkably, all of the top five most-watched matches in the tournament featured Team Liquid, showcasing strong support from the Brazilian audience. This new peak viewership record surpassed the previous year’s Grand Finals, where Shopify lost to G2 Gozen, reaching a peak viewership of 239,334.

In the intense Grand Finals that extended to all five maps in a nail-biting series, Shopify’s Ava “florescent” Eugene earned the MVP award, setting a world record for international VCT LANs with 112 kills in the series.

Team Liquid faced challenges throughout the tournament, navigating a lower bracket run after an initial setback against G2 on the first day. In the lower bracket, they eliminated the top seeds from EMEA, NA, and APAC, seeking revenge against G2 in the lower bracket final. The reigning champions, G2, secured third place, displaying resilience after roster changes and doubts stemming from an EMEA Stage 3 loss.
