Harry Potter Game Has Beaten New Zelda Game In 2023 Sales

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is truly a powerful worldwide brand, despite the controversies surrounding it.

Hogwarts Legacy, a 2023 action-adventure open-world title from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, has sold 22 million copies worldwide (via Warner Bros.) in its debut year, beating out Nintendo top title The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which sold 20.28 million copies (via Nintendo). According to a recent Warner Bros. press release, this makes the Harry Potter game the “best-selling game of the year in the entire industry worldwide”.

Of course, the fact that the Zelda game sold exclusively for Nintendo Switch means that those numbers are nothing to scoff at. One can argue that Hogwarts Legacy’s multiplatform releases (Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, PC, and the rest) helped with those huge numbers. In any case, both Warner Bros. and Nintendo have a lot to celebrate about, trouncing the rest of 2023’s sequels and shooters.
