The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Is Coming To Next-Gen Consoles

German developer Daedalic Entertainment initially announced The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum back in March 2019, with little to no information about the game. Almost a year later, now we know that that upcoming game will be releasing on next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X as well.

This was confirmed by Daedalic Entertainment in an interview with Edge magazine (via IGN). They also revealed that Gollum himself won’t be modelled after the popular Andy Serkis version in the iconic Peter Jackson trilogy. Instead, he will be designed from scratch for the game.

Art director Mathias Fischer said:

“Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum, to begin with.

So in the first illustrations, he’s gigantic! He’s like a monster emerging from the swamp.”

Players should also expect the Nazgul to appear, and the gameplay in The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum to feature stealth gameplay, a dual-personality mechanic, huge levels, and less focus on violence.

Game designer Martin Wilkes said:

“It’s not just choosing to be Sméagol or Gollum, because for Gollum as an entity it’s not that easy.

Each personality is being attacked by the other; each has to defend himself.

You will have maybe two, three or four conflicts per chapter that lead to a final decision point.

And at this final decision point, it will be harder to pick Sméagol, for example, if you’ve always fought for the Gollum side before.”

The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is slated to release sometime in 2021.
