Malaysians & Singaporeans Share Interesting Tastes On Netflix; Here’s How

The year is almost over, and Netflix has provided statistics on the viewing habits of both Malaysians and Singaporeans. It’s interesting how some of our tastes are the same, but differ in others. Let’s see, shall we?

It’s a no brainer that both Malaysians and Singaporeans would love Crazy Rich Asians. Not only was the movie filmed in Malaysia and Singapore, but it also featured many actors from both countries as well, like Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding.

Somehow, we also both love Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth, the Korean horror movie #Alive and the Blackpink Light Up The Sky documentary. There is a lot of love for all things Korean.

The shared most popular titles between Malaysians and Singaporeans are highlighted in bold.

Malaysia Most Popular Netflix Titles In 2020 According to Genre

K-Drama: It’s Okay Not To Okay
Romance: Crazy Rich Asians
Kids & Family: Over The Moon
Action: Extraction
Horror: #Alive
Documentary: BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky
Anime: A Whisker Away

Singapore Most Popular Netflix Titles In 2020 According to Genre

K-Drama: The King: Eternal Monarch
Romance: Crazy Rich Asians
Kids & Family: The Angry Birds Movie 2
Action: Extraction
Horror: #Alive
Documentary: BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky
Anime: Pok̩mon: Mewtwo Strikes Back РEvolution

In addition, Netflix users in Malaysia watched two times more documentaries and anime in 2020 compared to 2019. The reason for that is highly likely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which gives many people the opportunity to stay at home and watch whatever tickles their fancy.
