Atomicrops Is What You Get When You Give Stardew Valley’s Farmers Guns

What happens when you mashup Stardew Valley and Hotline Miami together? You get a wacky, over-the-top shooter called Atomicrops.

It’s a lovely indie action roguelite farming simulator game with crazy gameplay.

According to an interview with PCGamesN, developer Danny Wynne said that he was playing a lot of Stardew Valley, and he enjoyed the relaxing farming offered by the game.

Eventually, he thought that ‘what if I could just farm and fight at the same time?’

So what you do in this game is you farm (as in “agricultural” farming, not “MMO exp” farming) to sustain your crops and improve your weaponry and kill enemies, all at the same time, while protecting your plot of crops from being eaten. Each enemy you kill will net you items such as fertilisers for your crops and material.

Managing your mutated crops sound more fun than vanilla crops.

Enemies spawn in moderation during the daytime, but at night, it’s no holds barred as waves and waves of mutant plants and animals come down laying your plot to waste if you didn’t bolster your defences.

Like Stardew Valley, you can woo and marry NPCs in the world. And get this, instead of your newly wedded wife becomes that standard old housewife, she joins you in the battle against evil vegetables. Talking about a sweet honeymoon.

Ahh I miss getting overwhelmed from multiple directions

But there’s more! You can also recruit an entourage of pig pals, chicken chums and cow colleagues to automate farming tasks. You’re definitely gonna need all the hands, or paws, or hooves or whatever, on deck to survive till the next morning.

I’ve been longing for a wacky farming life-simulator like this. It’s not every day you get to see and play a farming sim with guns and upgrades, as well as killing overwhelming enemies feeding my cathartic farming sessions. I’ll definitely be looking forward to Atomicrops.

Atomicrops will be released consoles and PC somewhere this year; no specific details have been revealed yet.
