Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode Arriving Today

In an unexpected and abrupt tweet on the Kingdom Hearts official Twitter account, series creator Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode is finally arriving today as part of a free update on 23 April 2019.

However, no details were revealed, including whether or not the update will be coming with more than just the Critical Mode. No specific time frame or release window was announced as well, so we should expect the update to arrive at any time today.

In previous Kingdom Hearts games, Critical Mode has always been the hardest and most challenging difficulty level, by imposing certain limitations like limited EXP, doubling the damage that players take or halving the damage they deal, and more.

It will be interesting to see how the Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode will actually differ from previous games, especially since fans have been complaining about how easy the game is compared to past entries.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is out now for the PS4 and Xbox One. In the meantime, check out my review of the game here, or check out my thoughts discussing the future of the franchise post-Kingdom Hearts 3 here.

    Tetsuya Nomura & Square Enix:
    * Decide to simply increase the difficulty of KH3 a bit by implementing a Critical Mode as a free update (that should have already been included in the game) instead of giving fans what they really want — story revisions and additional content *

    KH3 Fanatics:
    * Freaks out * “THANK YOU GODSUYA!!! Godsuya can do no wrong! Godsuya heard our prayers! This is the best most anticipated update EVER!!!!”
