Guillermo Del Toro Returns To Horror In Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Trailer

Guillermo Del Toro is going back to his pure horror roots with Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. A new trailer for the movie has been released, finally showing us what sweet horrors we can look forward to when the movie arrives in August 2019.

Though he won’t be directing the upcoming movie, Del Toro co-wrote the story. André Øvredal, best known for found footage film Trollhunter and horror movie The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, will be directing Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.

As scary and creepy as the creature designs (achieved with brilliant old-school practical effects), Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark will still be rated PG-13 and not R, since the original book and source material for the movie is actually meant for a younger audience.

Don’t let that fool you, though. Pan’s Labyrinth was also PG-13, but it featured a man smashing the face of another person into a bloody pulp with a glass bottle. If you’re still not convinced, here’s what Del Toro had to say about the movie in an interview with Polygon:

“Personally, I think the most dangerous time is your childhood. It’s always like, ‘It’s a golden time.’

Not for me, man. I was in Shawshank. I was going to a Jesuit school, I was in the prison, having to fight in the yard and this and that.

[Øvredal] captured that, and it made the kids more complex. A lot of movies simplify kids and make them cute, skateboarding dudes who say one-liners and never get killed.

In my movies, kids do die.

They are more frail, but at the same, more complex, and they see that darkness, and that extends to this movie.”

In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
