Slam Dunk To Return After 22 Years

The Shōhoku High School basketball team is coming back!

After a long hiatus, the Japanese manga/anime series that popularized sports manga in the 90s is making its comeback on April 2020, according to its creator Takehiko Inoue.

As you can see, he’s showing off some glossy pages of yet-to-be-released material for the series.

While not exactly the first sports anime –Captain Tsubasa takes that honour- Slam Dunk is one of the most popular due to its likeable protagonists and insanely detailed and realistic artwork and style. Inoue basically perfected drawing human figures in anime form without looking completely “cartoony”. His work on Vagabond and Lost Odyssey is further proof of that.
