Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Is Just Jet Set Radio With A New Coat Of Paint

Indie developer Team Reptile released a trailer to their upcoming 2021 game Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and if it looks similar to a certain Sega Smilebit rollerblading graffiti-tagging title, you are correct.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (BRC) makes no attempt at hiding its Jet Set Radio/Jet Grind Radio influences and roots. In fact, that series composer Hideki Naganuma is going to be making music for BRC. Even the premise is similar, sans rollerblades.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, 1 second per second of advanced funkstyle. Start your own cypher and dance, tag, trick, face off with the cops and stake your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis.

And you know what? I am perfectly fine with this. The world needs a new HD successor to Jet Set Radio and its genius grinding, running, acrobatics, and graffiti-tagging open-world nonsense. Hopefully, the indie team do not bite off more than they can chew; making a sprawling semi-linear set of city levels ripe for racing & tagging is no small feat.

If you want to see what the indie team’s previous efforts are, check out their last game Lethal League Blaze.
