District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp Is Working On A New Multiplayer Shooter

Neill Blomkamp, whom you may remember as the director of acclaimed sci-fi films like District 9, Elysium, and Chappie, has joined video game developer Gunzilla Games as the company’s Chief Visionary Officer.

The famed director will be helping the studio create its upcoming debut multiplayer shooter, which has yet to be revealed. Gunzilla Games is currently filled with development talent that worked with bigwigs like Crytek, Ubisoft, and EA to name a few.

Blomkamp will act as “an egalitarian version of being a film director” (via IGN) and will work with different parts of the team to decide the best routes forward for design, audio, storytelling, and more.

“It comes from a place of bringing directorial skills that would be along the lines of the films that I’ve done before to the aesthetic of the game.”

Here’s the press blurb from Blomkamp about his involvement:

“Gunzilla has a strong vision that clearly stands out. With a team of incredible talents and long-time industry veterans, it is creating a new, exciting multiplayer AAA shooter game that pushes the boundaries of gameplay, player freedom, customization options as well as narrative experience within the shooter genre.

My own big screen film experience will hopefully help shape new ways of interactive storytelling and next-generation visuals. And by making best use of everything today’s video game development technologies have on offer we will jointly create an immersive experience like we’ve never seen before.”
