Guess Which Game Developers Have No Interest In NFTs?

If you answered “most of them” to the headline above this story, you’re right.

The Game Developers Conference’s annual State of the Game Industry Report has been released, which asked over 2,700 game developers about their work. When asked “what is your studio’s interest in non-fungible tokens (NFTs)?” about 70% of the 2,700 developers said they have no interest in the subject matter. They also do not have any interest in implementing NFTs in their games. About 21% said they were “somewhat interested” and 7% said “very interested”. The remaining 1% said they were on it.

When asked about their interest in cryptocurrency as a payment tool, 72% of them said they weren’t interested. 21% are somewhat interested, 6% are interested, and 1% are using it. Here’s a summary from the survey:

“When asked how they felt about the possibility of cryptocurrency or NFTs in games, a few [developers] called it the future of gaming. [A] vast majority of respondents spoke out against both practices – noting their potential for scams, overall monetization concerns, and the environmental impact.”

Companies like Konami are already selling NFTs to customers at this point in time. Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda said he and his company are committed to making blockchain and NFT games a part of its portfolio.
