Marvel’s Thunderbolts Movie Gets Its Director

It looks like the rumours are true after all, and Marvel Studios is preparing for its upcoming Thunderbolts movie with Jake Schreier as the director. Schreier is best known for directing 2015’s Paper Towns and several episodes of Netflix’s Brand New Cherry Flavor.

According to the report from Deadline, Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is working on the Thunderbolts script with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing.

No details have been revealed about the project, but it will revolve around a group of supervillains who go on missions for the government. No actors or returning characters have been confirmed for the Thunderbolts movie.

If we look at the comics, possible members of the MCU’s Thunderbolts include Daniel Bruhl’s Baron Zemo, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, Tim Roth’s The Abomination, Wyatt Russell’s US Agent.

Thunderbolts’ first appearance in the comics.

In the comics, the first Thunderbolts team was assembled by Baron Zemo. They masqueraded as a superhero team and as a replacement for the Avengers before the truth eventually came out that they were actually criminals and supervillains. The MCU doesn’t have a main Avengers team anymore, so it’s ripe for the Thunderbolts to make their debut.

In my Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings breakdown, I predicted that the Abomination might be recruited for the Thunderbolts by Baron Zemo.
