Is There Hope For A Star Ocean 7 And Valkyrie Profile 3?

While sales for Star Ocean: The Divine Force (part 6) aren’t so hot, developer Tri-Ace is hopeful in making sequels for that series and also for Valkyrie Profile.

According to interviews from both Japanese publications Inside and Famitsu, Tri-Ace producer and director Shingo Mukaitoge and Kentaro Arakawa said that if Star Ocean: The Divine Force sells well, there will be an opportunity for a Star Ocean 7. They also said that they would love to make a Valkyrie Profile 3, as it has been a long time since Valkyrie Profile 2 came out back in the PlayStation 2 era.

As to why Star Ocean: The Divine Force came out the way it is, this was due to budget and time constraints. Mukaitoge said the game is an “80”.

“We had time and budget constraints and wanted to make endless things. From a developer’s standpoint, there are literally countless things you could do to improve Divine Force. But I felt that I had to release the game feeling like an 80.”

Also, there will not be any DLC for Star Ocean: The Divine Force; what you see in the base game is all you’re getting. However, the game will get potential updates though that’s up to Square Enix.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force/Star Ocean 6 is out right now for PC and consoles; check out our review here. The Valkyrie Profile action RPG spinoff Valkyrie Elysium is also out too; the game recently came out for PC (Steam). Check out our review here. To this day, we’re still wondering why Square Enix decided to release a lot of its meaty JRPGs within a season; my guess is to clear 2023 of anything that isn’t Final Fantasy, since part 16 is coming out that year.
