#5: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Shredder’s Revenge

After numerous crappy and subpar license action games, it’s high time the original mutant animal ninja brothers -Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello- get back their honour with a beat-em-up title worthy of their legacy. And it’s as meaty as a giant-sized pepperoni-and-cheese-filled pizza from New York.

Made by Tribute Games and Dotemu, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge takes the 2D beat-em-up and co-op concepts of the 80s and 90s arcade and NES titles, and just made them bigger and better for a 2022 audience. The game gives you a bunch of movesets and skills so that you can evade and counter what’s tossed at you, from multi-coloured foot soldiers to even the mothertruckin’ Triceraton army. This TMNT title is easy to jump into and features all your favourite turtles, and even ex-damsels April O’Neil and Splinter as power-fighting badasses (and deservedly so). Heck, this is the only TMNT title where all six heroes can team up to take on the gnarliest of challenges and levels.

Coupled with an awesome artstyle and soundtrack that’s just full of 80s Saturday Morning Cartoon personality and vibe, and you have the total pizza power package. You’d be a goon not to jump in on this co-op brawler madness.
