TSM Signs All-Female Apex Legends Roster
By Lewis Larcombe|January 28, 2023|0 Comment
After much controversy, TSM has finally taken a good step forward by signing an all-female Apex Legends team featuring renowned existing TSM content creator Janey.
TSM initially brought on Janey as a streamer on 28 June 2021, but with the recent announcement, she has transitioned from creating content to becoming a professional player. Along with her, TSM has also recruited Kornelia “Sabz” Zawistowska from Phoenix Legacy in EMEA, Isabella “Avuhlie” Rivera from the NA Pro League Qualifiers, and former ALGS Caster and Pro League player Laurice “GuhRL” Habibi to join the Apex Legends division.

TSM’s recent addition of players to their Apex Legends division is a continuation of their expansion into the game, following the signing of Mikkel “Mande” Hestbek, a former professional player for SCARZ and winner of the EMEA ALGS Championship 2021, as a European content creator. With Sabz now joining as the second European player signed by the team in the past week, this marks a significant milestone for the North American organization.
The Vice President of Esports for TSM has clarified that the newly signed players will not be forming a team to compete in the ALGS due to various reasons. Janey will not be participating in competitions due to a lack of interest, Sabz will continue competing with Phoenix Legacy in EMEA, and Avuh and GuhRL are currently searching for a North American-based team to compete with. Despite this, TSM plans to continue competing together in community tournaments and creator events, such as the Celestial Cup and Twitchcon and will be highlighting the individual paths and tournament results of all the players even if they are not always playing together as a team.

The response to TSM’s second roster has been very positive, with professional players and content creators emphasizing the significance of a top organization signing a female roster and expanding its reach into Apex Legends, especially as other teams such as G2 Esports, Cloud9, and Team Liquid are withdrawing from the competitive scene entirely. TSM is continuing to establish its presence in the Apex Legends scene through the ALGS and community tournaments and is setting a high benchmark for involvement in the Apex Legends scene.
This is on the back end of a lot of controversy surrounding TSM’s owner and former CEO Andy “Reginald” Dinh alongside the org’s affiliation with crypto company FTX who are also under a lot of fire at the moment. This move is not only massive for TSM’s reputation but more importantly, brings more attention to women in esports who are criminally underrepresented in the industry.
