New Hellboy Reboot In The Works With Original Creator Writing The Script

Millennium Media is working on a new live-action Hellboy movie reboot. According to Deadline, Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance, Mom And Dad) will direct the movie, which is currently titled Hellboy The Crooked Man.

As the title suggests, it’s based on a Hellboy miniseries that was first published in 2008.

What’s interesting is that Hellboy comics creator Mike Mignola himself will be involved and he wrote the script for Hellboy The Crooked Man alongside Christopher Golden. Production is starting next month in Bulgaria.

The synopsis reads:

“The new film will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”

Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein also confirmed that there will be more than one Hellboy movie after this one. Well, depending on how well this one performs at the box office, probably.

He said:

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form. This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”

However, no casting has been announced, including who will be playing Hellboy himself.

The last Hellboy reboot was in 2019, which starred David Harbour as Hellboy. You can check out my review of that here, or check out some recommendations of the best Hellboy comics by heading over here.

Oh, and Hellboy even came to Malaysia once in the comics, read more about that here.
