Xbox Will Give More Love To Southeast Asian Game Developers; Here’s How

While Xbox consoles are still being sold in a grey market capacity in most of Southeast Asia -with Singapore still being a prime location for official SEA distribution- that isn’t stopping the Microsoft video game arm from reaching out to Southeast Asia.

On a recent 20m Podcast co-hosted by Twitch streamers Arief Johan and Rinoa Skyes, Xbox global expansion representative Jun Shen Chia said that his Xbox Global Expansion Incubation team is focused on exploring new markets with immense potential, like Southeast Asia.

The division was literally formed in 2022 with its sole goal being to cultivate game development potential in parts that weren’t given much love by Xbox.

“Southeast Asia is not lacking in the games industry. If you look at the consumer side everyone here is playing Apex and Overwatch. International companies have done a very good job at marketing to this region, but now we need to be in a position where we do the same for locally-made games.”

Jun also mentions a number of Southeast Asian games he’s looking forward to: Dreadhaunt, Graveless, Cuisineer, and Fallen Tear. Would this be an indicator that these titles might somehow end up on Xbox Game Pass in the future? Who knows, though that would be great exposure and a lovely way to entice SEA gamers to justify more reasons to buy a pass and the console that usually entails. Of course, extra capital injection in these ongoing projects in exchange for some form of platform exclusivity wouldn’t hurt either.
