Succession’s Brian Cox Is The Last Person I Expected To Narrate Tekken Lore…

When you think video game history recaps, you expect this generation’s flavour of YouTube content creators or esports aficionado, or even a “retired” esports-turned-content-creator doing the reading and VO for such a project. If we’re talking fighting games like, oh say, Tekken, to coincide with the upcoming release of Tekken 8 later this month, I’d probably think of someone like Majin Obama or Maximillian to undertake the task.

I sure as hell didn’t expect two-time BAFTA and Golden Globe Award winner actor legend Brian Cox to provide his face and accent for a Tekken lore dump (and a hefty paycheck no doubt), but here we are. Bandai Namco’s latest video feature to promote Tekken 8 is essentially a Tekken story summary with the actor of HBO’s Succession at the forefront.

Honestly? He brings an air of gravitas and importance in what is basically a series about fathers and sons attempting to kill each other and using demon magic, shell companies, guests from other fighting games, and scifi nonsense creations like dinosaurs, boxing kangaroos, and robots to get the upper hand.

Check it out below.

Tekken 8 will be out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on 26th January.
