Yura Urushibara’s renowned dark fantasy manga series, Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood, will be adapted into a TV anime series next year. This announcement has been confirmed by the Japanese broadcasting company, REMOW. The company has already revealed the trailer, key visual, and main cast for this exciting adaptation.
This anime series will serve as the second phase of the Tougen Anki Project. The first instalment of the project was a well-received stage play, which featured prominent actors such as Alan Abe. The play was so successful that it has already been confirmed a sequel stage play in January 2025.
The trailer for the upcoming anime series showcases its captivating visuals and a sneak peek into its thrilling storyline. The trailer also provides a glimpse into the main character and its development, showing the clash between the “Oni” and “Momotaro” clans, giving fans a taste of what they can expect from this adaptation.
There are three cast members confirmed for Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood:
Shiki Ichinose voiced by Kazuki Ura (known for Yoichi Isagi in Blue Lock)
The story revolves around Shiki, the main character who inherits the bloodline of an Oni (demon). One day, he is ambushed by a “Momotaro,” which leads him to unravel his true Oni heritage. As he discovers his identity, he decides to join Rasetsu Academy, a specialized school that trains Oni.
Naito Mudano voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya (known for Koyomi Araragi in Monogatari)
Naito is an instructor at Rasetsu Academy. He is a rationalist who has a strong dislike for inefficiency and wastefulness.
Jin Kougasaki voiced by Koutaro Nishiyama (known for Koji Tatsuishi in My Happy Marriage)
A student at Rasetsu Academy and Shiki’s classmate. Always seen wearing a black mask, Jin frequently clashes with Shiki.
The Tougen Anki manga, originally written by Yura Urushibara, is serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion, and the 20th collected volume is set to be released on 8 May in Japan. Starting on 17 September, Yen Press will release an English-translated version.
According to the press release, the Tougen Anki anime is described as follows:
“You inherit the blood of an Oni (demon)…”
The bloodlines of “Oni” and “Momotaro” have been passed down among certain humans for generations. Long ago, the Oni, aware of their own ferocity, lived in seclusion. However, their peace was shattered by an invasion led by Momotaro. Over thousands of years, these two factions formed the “Momotaro Agency” and the “Oni Agency,” respectively, and have been locked in conflict ever since.
The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose, suddenly learns of his Oni lineage following an unexpected attack by Momotaro. This revelation sets Shiki on a path to discover the destiny that lies within his blood — a meeting with the Oni dwelling within him.
— A new generation of dark heroics begins here in this tale of demons!
No further information has been announced about the series beyond a 2025 release window.
