PlayStation’s Epic Samurai Game Is Getting An Anime Adaptation

2020’s Ghost of Tsushima is one of PlayStation’s biggest games that released for the PlayStation 4 from Sucker Punch, to the point where it received a multiplayer mode and an expansion/PS5 upgrade. We loved it, so this piece of news from CES 2025 is pretty exciting.

Sony has announced an anime adaptation of open-world period piece action title Ghost of Tsushima (at least the Legends multiplayer portion), which will be a co-production between Aniplex and Crunchyroll. Gen Urobuchi of Psycho Pass fame (among other anime series & films) will be handling the story composition, with music production from Sony Music. Star Wars: Visions – The Duel director Takanobu Mizuno will be directing the series (image via Geoff Keighley @ The Game Awards).

If you want a peek to see what he did, check the video below. He helmed one of the more memorable Star Wars: Visions episodes, so it’s easy to get hyped up at a prospects of a lovely-looking Ghost of Tsushima adaptation in animated form. Except replace lightsabers with actual katanas.

As for the show’s release date, it has a release window: 2027. Anime takes a while to make, so let them cook. On a related note, a Ghost of Tsushima sequel is in the works and it’s called Ghost of Yotei. There’s also a Ghost of Tsushima movie in the works, with John Wick Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski on directing duties.
