BULLET/BULLET Blasts Onto Disney+ Hotstar As Anime’s Wildest Heist Yet
By Lewis Larcombe|June 6, 2025|0 Comment
Imagine if Mad Max raided an anime convention, swiped the best talent, then let a gambling-addicted polar bear drive the plot. That’s basically BULLET/BULLET — a mad, metal-scrap-fuelled ride from Sunghoo Park, the award-winning brain behind Jujutsu Kaisen. And after a decade of lurking in development hell, it’s finally bursting onto Disney+ Hotstar this 16 July.
Set in a grimy, post-apocalyptic junkyard of a world where “DIY” means “survive or get dismantled”, BULLET/BULLET follows Gear, a part-time junk dealer, full-time thief, and all-around mystery man. By his side? A schizophrenic robot named Qu-0213 (because of course), and Shirokuma—a polar bear with a vice for blackjack and bad decisions. Together, this trio pull off odd jobs and big heists for clients until, as expected, they accidentally save a mysterious girl from death and immediately paint a target on their backs the size of a Gundam’s foot.
The story veers straight into conspiracies and class warfare, as our misfit heroes end up clashing with the ruling elite of their crumbling society — think Robin Hood, if Robin wore a gas mask, drove a beat-up hover bike, and had beef with robot overlords.
And if that somehow wasn’t enough to hook you, the voice cast reads like an anime Hall of Fame. Marina Inoue (Attack on Titan), Kana Hanazawa (Psycho-Pass), and Kazuhiro Yamaji (One Punch Man) all lend their talents, alongside other veterans. Behind the scenes, it’s an all-star party too: Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter x Hunter) is on character design, while mechanical concepts are handled by Hidetaka Tenjin of Macross and Gundam fame. Basically, if you hear a buzz, it’s this series revving its chainsaw through your expectations.
And let’s talk music — the opening is “Work Hard” by rap phenom Chanmina. The ending? “Glass Door” by alt-rockers Newspeak. It’s a soundtrack that slaps harder than the bear probably does.
Dropping in two halves, the first eight episodes land on 16 July, and the second wave arrives 13 August. Which gives you just enough time between parts to emotionally recover from whatever anime heartbreak or brain-melting cliffhanger Park throws your way.
So, if you’re after a stylish, chaotic, character-driven action anime with actual originality, a touch of humour, and a polar bear who probably needs therapy, BULLET/BULLET might just be the next big thing.
Just don’t call it Disney’s answer to Chainsaw Man — this bullet’s got its own trajectory.
