Nintendo Switch Global Sales Go Past 125 Million Units; Top Seller Is New Fire Emblem

Hats off to Nintendo yet again for selling more Nintendo Switch units since 2017, and with no upgraded version to boot.

Nintendo has announced that its global sales of the Nintendo Switch hardware (regular, OLED, Lite) are at 125.62 million units as of 31st March 2023; these results were announced in its latest earnings release. In the first three months of 2023 alone, Nintendo sold 3.07 million units of hardware and 41.85 million units of software.

Speaking of games, here are the top 10 best-selling first-party Switch titles. And yes, Mario Kart 8 is still on top.

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 53.79 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 42.21 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 31.09 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 29.81 million
  5. Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 25.82 million
  6. Super Mario Odyssey – 25.76 million
  7. Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet – 22.10 million
  8. Super Mario Party – 19.14 million
  9. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 15.41 million
  10. Ring Fit Adventure – 15.38 million

In terms of new game releases of 2023, Fire Emblem Engage is the top earner for the first three months of the year, selling over 1.61 million units. This is followed by Metroid Prime Remastered which is at 1.09 million units. It does goes to show that having good games and keeping that track record since 2017 when your console debuted does help. Yes, even with how protective Nintendo is of its IPs, it does show results and equal more people buying consoles for Mario and Zelda games.
