Konami’s Anniversary Collections Will Remind Us Of The Company’s Former Glory

It’s Konami’s 50th birthday, and if it were not for its #fuckkonami movement from their past misdeeds, we would be a tad overjoyed at its continued existence. Alas, its pachinko business is doing just fine besmirching its past icons and mascots.

But bygones should be bygones. After all, the company plans to release Anniversary Collections of their classic arcade and console titles to remind us of the good ol’ days. The first pack is dubbed Arcade Classics and is scheduled for 18 April for US$20. It features Haunted Castle, Typhoon, Gradius, Gradius II, Life Force, Thunder Cross, Scramble, and Twinbee.

We’ll be getting the obligatory Castlevania Anniversary Collection in “early summer”. Four games have been announced so far; Castlevania, Castlevania III, Castlevania II for the Game Boy, and Super Castlevania IV.

I hope for their sake Castlevania: Bloodlines is part of that ensemble. That Megadrive Castlevania needs a lot of love.

Also out in “early summer” is the Contra Anniversary Collection, featuring Contra (arcade), Super Contra (arcade), Super C (NES), Contra III (SNES), and four other Contra games. I do hope Contra: Rebirth for the Wii is included; it’s also another underrated Contra remix hit.

These bundles will be available digitally on PS4, PC (Steam), Xbox One, and Switch. Strangely, there isn’t a Metal Gear Anniversary Collection announced.
