Overwatch Will Get Its Own Young Adult Novel Featuring Orisa

If you’re a big fan of science fiction, then you’ve probably heard of Nicky Drayden or at least her award-winning novel The Prey of Gods, a story that takes place in futuristic South Africa.

The upcoming Overwatch novel titled The Hero of Numbani is written by Drayden and it also takes place in a futuristic African setting. The story will focus on the heroic rise of Efi Oladele whom you’ll probably remember from Orisa‘s Origin Story video. She’s the girl who built Orisa from the remains of OR15 defence robots that were destroyed by Doomfist.

Aside from Efi, Orisa, and Doomfist, Lucio is also slated to appear in the novel. What’s a Brazilian hard-light skating musician doing in Numbani, you ask? Well, we’ll have to read the novel to find out but I’m pretty sure he’s initially there for a concert.

Here’s the description of the novel on its Amazon listing page:

In the technologically advanced African city of Numbani, in the not-so-distant future, humans live in harmony with humanoid robots known as omnics. But when a terrorist tries to shatter that unity, a hero named Efi Oladele rises!

Efi has been making robots since she was little-machines to better her community and improve people’s lives. But after she witnesses Doomfist’s catastrophic attack on the city’s OR15 security bots, Efi feels the call to build something greater: a true guardian of Numbani.

While Doomfist sows discord between humans and omnics, Efi engineers an intelligent and compassionate robot, Orisa, named after the powerful spirits who guide her people. Orisa has a lot to learn before she’s ready to defeat Doomfist, but Efi has some learning to do, too, especially when it comes to building-and being-a hero. With Doomfist rallying his forces, and the military powerless to stop him, can Efi mold Orisa into the hero of Numbani before it’s too late?

The Hero of Numbani is scheduled to be published on 5 May 2020 by Scholastic. Check out the novel’s Amazon listing here.
