Epic Announces Epic Games Publishing Label
By Melvyn Tan|March 27, 2020|0 Comment
Epic Games is now venturing into more than digital games distribution, as it has announced its new Epic Games Publishing label. They also revealed the label to be the one that Remedy signed two deals with recently.
Epic Games Publishing will be a multiplatform endeavour with a “developer-first approach”. They currently have deals with The Last Guardian‘s gen DESIGN, Limbo‘s Playdead, and of course, Remedy.
According to Epic, they will allow developers to “retain 100% of all intellectual property and full creative control of their work” and allow them to earn “at least” 50% of profits. They will also fully cover development costs, from “developer salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs”.
While I haven’t been a big fan of the Epic Games Store, I think Epic’s latest move is a pretty good developer-friendly initiative. This will likely result in more Epic Games Store exclusives and times exclusives though, so I can see some players being less enthusiastic.
More announcements will be coming later this year, so we’ll find out more about what Epic Games Publishing has in store a few months down the road.
