Taipei Game Show 2020 Cancelled, To Be Moved Online
By Alleef Ashaari|March 26, 2020|0 Comment
Taipei Game Show 2020 was originally supposed to take place in February 2020 but was then delayed to June 2020 due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in China. However, the organisers have now announced that the upcoming event has been officially cancelled.
According to the Taipei Game Show 2020 organisers, many international attendees would have been unable to attend the show anyway due to strict border controls worldwide.
They said (via GamesIndustry.biz):
“The priority now is to comply with the guidelines and countermeasures announced by the government authorities and prevent the epidemic from further [spreading].
However, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be anything in store from Taipei Game Show 2020. Some elements from the event will be moved online, including a B2B matching event and a “Taipei Game Show Live” showcase for announcements by various game companies.
That’s good news because this year’s iteration of the event would have been the biggest one yet, with 300 exhibitors from 20 countries (including the US, Japan, and Malaysia) initially planning to attend. There were even rumours that From Software would unveil more of its mysterious new game, Elden Ring, at Taipei Game Show 2020.
Perhaps we’ll still get that in the Taipei Game Show Live showcase. At the time of writing, the organisers have yet to reveal when it will take place, or what companies will be involved.
Taipei Game Show 2020 has now joined the likes of E3 2020. Will Gamescom 2020 be the next event to be delayed? Time will tell.
