Sega’s Shining Force Is Coming Back, But…

Good news, strategy RPG fans: the classic Shining Force series from Sega is making a comeback.

The bad news, depending on how you look at it? It’s coming back as a mobile game. According to Gamer.ne, developer Hive (a subsidiary of Korean company Vespa) has recently licensed the rights to make Shining Force games for mobile. The next Shining Force game in a very, very long while will be called Shining Force: Heroes of Light and Darkness (Shining Force: Hikari to Yami no Eiyuu) and will be out in the first half of 2022 worldwide.

Just like most mobile RPGs, the new Shining Force will be a free-to-play title with item-based in-app purchases. The game will be distributed in Japan, South Korea, North America, Europe, and other Asian countries. So there’s a chance it’ll be out in English and may piss off a few retro gaming fans hoping to see a next-gen Shining Force game. All six of them.
