My Hero Academia Texas Smashes Into The Battle Royale Genre

A new My Hero Academia free-to-play battle royale was recently announced as My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble, along with the announcement for its beta.

The debut trailer for My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble was recently released and showcases a new addition to the battle royale genre, but with a Plus Ultra twist. The gameplay revealed the game to be a third-person shooter, letting you take control of the many heroes of U.A. High School along with the villainous members of society, to battle in locations seen in the hit anime series.

24 players will test their Quirks on each other in this battle royale, with three teams of eight players competing to off each other. Each character’s strengths such as offense, support, and disruption are completely different depending on their “Quirk”, letting players adapt different roles and play to their specific strengths. The trailers shows off gameplay of various characters, including Deku, Bakugou, All Might, Shigaraki and even some unexpected ones such as Mr. Compress and Cement.

The gameplay trailer also gave us a brief look at an inventory system, where players can pick up items and cards on the battlefield that can be used to enhance their powers, with Skill Cards affecting each character differently. Different objectives will also be scattered across the map, such as rescuing civilians and attacking them for villains.

The game’s closed beta test will take place on PS4 from 2 February 2022 to 6 February 2022 in Japan. A release date for My Hero Academia Ultra Rumble has yet to be announced. The game will be free-to-play and be available for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
