The Next Ys Game Will Be Completely Different, Says Falcom CEO
For those waiting for the next Ys JRPG from Falcom starring red-haired adventurer Adol, you may have to wait a while.
According to Falcom CEO Toshihiro Kondo in a Weibo interview, the next Ys title will only be out after 2022. The next sequel to the JRPG will feature new ideas with a different system and type of gameplay.
“There will be new ideas in the new Ys. From Ys 7 to Ys IX, these title have maintained a similar system. The new sequel will feature something completely different.”
Ys IX came out in 2021 and is one of our top games of 2021. Check out the review here.

Hopefully they move to a much more modern graphics engine and away from portable being the primary development platform. As a fan of the series since Ys: Book 1 and 2 on Turbografx-CD, i’m sure any changes to the way the game is played will be an improvement. Falcom hasn’t been around this long by messing things up.
