The New Dune 4X Game Has An Early Access Release Date

Dune: Spice Wars is getting an Early Access version ready for 4X game fans and sci-fi aficionados who like getting spice in giant deserts and dealing with sandworms and holy crusade allegories.

The Early Access version of the strategy game will be out on 26 April. There’s no price point set just yet, but at least it’s official: you’ll be playing the game later this month in Early Access PC form.

In addition, publisher Funcom and developer Shiro Games announced the fourth faction of the game: the Fremen. The Fremen are stealth-focused warriors who excel in ambushes, as well as ride on sandworms.

This faction is led by Liet Kynes, and these are her councillors

  • Stilgar Ben Fifrawi – the Naib of Sietch Tabr. A formidable warrior, but an even wiser ruler, he is deeply respected by all of the Fremen.
  • Mother Ramallo – a rogue Reverend Mother of the Bene Gesserit. She inspires a strong religious fervour into the Fremen and holds a deep knowledge of all their rites.
  • Chani Kynes –, the daughter of Liet, and a bold and charismatic woman. Her brilliant and intuitive mind helps her gather facts and figures from the tiniest hearsays.
  • Otheym – a renowned Fremen fighter. He is also a very good teacher and a great leader, specialising in desert guerrilla warfare.

The main units you control are as follows:

  • Warriors – masters of the sandy Arrakis terrain.
  • Infiltrators – stay invisible until they strike, breaking an enemy’s will and focus when they do.
  • Skirmishers – use grenades to ambush armoured units.
  • Fedaykins – elite Fremen soldiers that use sound to attack.
  • Kulon Caravans – hold the clan’s water supply, these can set up temporary camps to heal units.

The three other factions are the Atreides, the Harkonnen, and the Smugglers.
