According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Prey director Dan Trachtenberg is attached to a new Predator movie. Titled Badlands, the new Predator movie will be a brand new film set in the future. It is not a sequel to 2022’s Prey, which was set in 1719 and followed a young Comanche woman forced to fight for survival against the alien hunters.

However, just like Prey, Badlands will reportedly feature a female lead as well. Trachtenberg is writing the story with Patrick Aison. Besides Prey, Dan Trachtenberg is best known for directing 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, as well as an episode of The Boys.

Badlands isn’t the only Predator project in the works at 20th Century Studios. The unexpected success of Prey has caused the studio to start planning a bunch of new Predator content, sort of like a cinematic universe, with Dan Trachtenberg as the head.

The original 1987’s Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked in a jungle by a fearsome alien. That movie was followed by three sequels and one prequel; 1990’s Predator 2, 2010’s Predators, 2018’s The Predator and 2022’s Prey.

The synopsis reads:

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people.

The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
