According to a report by Variety, Jeffrey Wright has been cast in HBO’s The Last Of Us Season 2, reprising his role as Isaac from 2020’s The Last Of Part 2 game.

Jeffrey Wright is a critically acclaimed actor who’s been in many movies and TV shows, including playing Commissioner Gordon in 2022’s The Batman, Uatu The Watcher in Marvel’s What If…? and several seasons of HBO’s Westworld.

Season two returning cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Previously announced new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.

Earlier this year, Isabela Merced was cast as Dina in HBO’s The Last Of Us Season 2. She joins other newly-announced cast members, such as Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Young Mazino as Jesse. In 2020’s The Last Of Us Part 2, Dina is Ellie’s new romantic interest and Jesse’s ex. Dina is a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.

This marks a reunion for Dever and Merced who starred together in the 2022 movie Rosaline. Merced, known for playing the title role in Dora And The Lost City Of Gold (check out my review here). She will also star in upcoming major movies such as Sony Pictures’ Madame Web, Disney’s Alien Romulus and Warner Bros. Discovery’s  Superman Legacy as Hawkgirl.

The Last Of Us, based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Rose Lam. Production companies include PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.

The Last Of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heart-breaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The Last Of Us Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2025.
