PUBG Corp CEO Sheds Light On Potential of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Coming to the PlayStation 4

Great news PlayStation 4 owners. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) may be coming to your gaming console soon… well, maybe just not that soon.

In an interview with InvenGlobal , the CEO of PUBG Corp, Chang Han Kim (CH Kim) was quoted as saying that while they have intentions to make the game available on other platforms outside the realms of PC and Xbox One, their current focus is to optimize the game in its present state.

“As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now. If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform.” he said.

First released as an unfinished, early-access game on Steam where it first gained its fame and massive player base, the Ver 1.0 of PUBG was only officially released on Steam recently and made available on the Xbox One under the Game Preview program starting December 2017. Unsurprisingly, both versions of the game encountered numerous bugs – some even game-breaking and its Xbox One release received so much flak pertaining to its performance during its early days but were swiftly dealt with not long after. Elaborating on this, Kim continued:

“Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.”

The Steam version of PUBG had sold over 24 million copies and is the most played game on Steam, having hit a peak concurrent player count of over three million. Its Xbox One version sold over a million copies three days after its release and plans are afoot for it to be localized and released by Tencent in China.

So there you have it. Hope is still there to have PUBG on your console of choice but one can expect to have a full, completed game once it hits the PlayStation 4. In the meantime, there’s always Fortnite.
