#12. Iron Man

This was the movie that started it all, the one that gave birth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the time (in 2008), it was deemed extremely risky to make a movie based on a B-list superhero that no one knew about. Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, and Robert Downey Jr. proved everyone wrong almost instantly.

Even discounting all that, the first Iron Man is a damned good origin movie and works just as well as a standalone movie. Some of the moments, especially those that involved Tony suiting up with his armour for the first time (and that first flight test sequence) still manage to give us goosebumps.
