[Report] Riot & Tencent Developing League Of Legends Mobile

Mobile MOBA games like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor are extremely popular, so it’s no surprise that their bigger brothers on the PC are trying to follow suit. According to Reuters, Riot Games and Tencent are currently developing a mobile version of League of Legends.

There are several sources, one of which claimed that both companies have been working on League of Legends mobile for more than a year while another said that it was unlikely to launch anytime in 2019.

It was also said that Riot Games originally turned down a proposal by Tencent to make League of Legends mobile years ago, which led to the release of the latter’s Arena of Valor (also known as Honour Of Kings in China).

At the time of writing, both Riot Games and Tencent have not officially confirmed or denied the report. While League of Legends remains one of the world’s biggest online games with a thriving esports scene, Newzoo analyst Gu Tianyi said that the PC version of the game isn’t actually raking in much revenue for Riot Games at the moment.

So What’s Going To Happen To Mobile Legends & Arena of Valor?

A mobile version of League of Legends would attract more players, especially in Asian countries where mobile games are more popular. However, with games like Mobile Legends and Arena of Valor already dominating the mobile MOBA genre, League of Legends mobile will need to do something to make itself stand out.

Then again, the fact that LoL has been around for 13 years is enough to make players jump ship. If you knew the original MOBA that inspired Mobile Legends and co. was making its way to your iOS and Android, you’d rather play that, right?
